Since 1980, ND Brown has built a legacy of reliability and innovation. We are proud to remain a family-owned business, providing high-performance transport solutions that keep the UK's infrastructure moving. Our journey has been defined by continuous investment in our people, technology, and specialist vehicle fleet. From our original head office in Wolverhampton, we have grown to operate six strategic depots across the UK, managing a modern fleet of more than 1,400 specialist vehicles. By pioneering the use of advanced Hot Box technology, we continue to set the standard for safety, efficiency, and operational excellence within the commercial vehicle industry.
A Foundation Built on Independence and Expertise.
Nigel Brown founded the company in 1980 in Northfield, Birmingham, with just six vehicles. He set out with a clear vision: to provide specialised vehicle hire with a professional, personal touch.
Over the last four decades, ND Brown has remained independent and family-operated, led by the same management team that established its reputation for quality. This continuity has enabled us to maintain a stable, customer-focused approach while expanding our reach and expertise across the highways, utilities, and municipal sectors.
Strategic Growth and Fleet Innovation
Throughout the 1980s, ND Brown continued to strengthen its position within the industry, steadily expanding its fleet to meet growing customer demand. During this period, the business also began exploring opportunities in a range of new sectors, laying the foundations for the diverse customer base it serves today.
A new era begins
As the business continued to grow, we relocated to larger premises and established our headquarters in Wolverhampton. This move provided the space and infrastructure needed to support ND Brown's expanding operations, while fleet numbers reached the significant milestone of 200 vehicles.
Hot Box Pioneers
In a landmark achievement, ND Brown became the first company in the UK to introduce Asphalt Hot Boxes to the hire market. By bringing this specialist equipment to customers nationwide, the company further strengthened its position at the forefront of the industry.
ND Brown continues to be recognised nationwide as the Hot Box specialist and has led this market sector for many years.
Expansion into Scotland
In 2000, ND Brown continued its growth with the opening of a new site in Kilsyth, Scotland. The facility strengthened the company's presence across the UK and enabled it to better serve customers throughout Scotland and the surrounding regions.
Opening Our Witheridge Site
In 2010, ND Brown reinforced its commitment to nationwide service with the opening of a new site in Witheridge, Devon. The investment increased capacity, strengthened regional support, and positioned the business for further growth across the South West.
Strengthening Our South-East presence
As our nationwide network continued to expand, we opened a new depot in Tonbridge, Kent, under the management of Harry Brown. The depot strengthened ND Brown's presence in the South-East, enabling us to provide enhanced local support, improved fleet availability, and a more responsive service to customers across the region.
Relocation to Plean
Growing demand in Scotland led ND Brown to relocate from Kilsyth to larger premises in Plean in 2016. The new site provided additional capacity for fleet and operational activities, enabling us to improve efficiency, expand our capabilities, and continue delivering the high standards of service our customers rely on.
Expanding into Northern Ireland
In 2017, ND Brown reached an important milestone with the opening of its first Northern Ireland site in Crumlin. This strategic expansion extended the company's geographic reach and enabled us to provide even closer support to customers across Northern Ireland. Establishing a local presence reinforced our commitment to delivering responsive service, building strong customer relationships, and investing in the regions we serve.
Relocation to Borough Green
As part of our continued growth, ND Brown relocated its Kent operations from Tonbridge to Borough Green in 2023. The move provided increased space and enhanced facilities to support our expanding business, ensuring we could continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers. This investment marked another important step in our journey, creating a stronger foundation for future growth while maintaining the high standards of service our customers expect.
Our first dedicated fabrication building opens
In 2024, ND Brown opened its first dedicated fabrication workshop in Eccleshall, Staffordshire. Created to support our growing hire fleet, the new facility enhanced our ability to carry out specialist fabrication work, prepare and customise equipment efficiently, and maintain the high standards our customers expect. The investment represented another significant step in strengthening our operational capabilities and supporting the continued growth of the business.
Relocation to Taunton
To accommodate continued growth, ND Brown relocated its Witheridge operation to larger premises in Taunton in 2025. The new site, previously occupied by a DAF dealership, provided significantly greater facilities and capacity to support our growing customer base and fleet. This move represented a major investment in the future of the business, creating a stronger operational hub for the South-West and providing the foundation for the next stage of our development.
Opening Our Second Wolverhampton Depot
In 2025, ND Brown expanded its national network with the opening of a second depot in Wolverhampton. The site, located on Willenhall Road, WV1 2HL, was formerly occupied by Guest Trucks and provided an excellent base to strengthen support for customers across the Midlands and surrounding regions. The addition of the Willenhall Road depot enhances ND Brown's ability to provide local service, increased stock availability, and reinforce the company's commitment to delivering responsive customer support throughout the UK.

In 2026, ND Brown reached a landmark achievement, surpassing 1,000 vehicles on hire for the first time in the company's history. This significant milestone reflected decades of sustained growth, strategic investment, and customer trust, reinforcing our position as one of the UK's leading specialist vehicle hire providers.

Our journey began at our head office in Wolverhampton, which remains the central hub of our nationwide operations today.
