A Carbon Neutral Organisation

ND Brown Ltd is proud to be a Carbon Neutral Organisation. This means that, in order to balance out the carbon emissions we cause as a company, we support carbon-saving projects elsewhere in the world. In helping to fund renewable energy projects and energy efficiency projects internationally, we balance out our carbon emissions, making us a Carbon Neutral Organisation.

Being a Carbon Neutral Organisation is incredibly important to us. As a company, we are committed to managing and reducing the impact we have on both our local environment and the wider world. And becoming Carbon Neutral is a huge step to achieving that.

Carbon Reduction Plan

Projects We Support

In order to become a Carbon Neutral Organisation, our company underwent a rigorous audit in order to track and calculate our carbon footprint. With the help of Carbon Footprint, we set our carbon neutrality and carbon management strategies and chose to support a range of high-quality projects around the world in order to offset our emissions. You can find out more about each of the projects we support below.

RMDLT Portel-Pará REDD Project

The Amazon rainforest is the largest remaining rainforest on our planet. It’s home to 10% of all species and an amazing location brimming with biodiversity. As you would imagine, the wildlife (including several endangered species) rely on the Amazon rainforest for their survival. So it’s vitally important that we preserve it.

The Portel-Pará REDD Project aims to do this by working to prevent unplanned deforestation in native forests. With the help of local villagers, this is achieved by managing the land through rigorous monitoring and enforcement. Not only will this vital project avoid over 22 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent greenhouse gas emissions over 40 years, but it will also contribute to sustainable development by stimulating the creation of jobs, raising awareness of forest management, and supporting critical biodiversity habits.

Kenya Reforestation Project

Trees are an integral part of our environment. Not only do they trap CO2 from the atmosphere and produce oxygen, but they also reduce ozone levels, urban runoff and erosion. Put simply, we wouldn’t be here without trees, which is why we chose to support the Kenya Reforestation project.

Based in the Great Rift Valley, this project is run by the Escarpment Environment Conservation Network. The aim of it is to mobilise and build the Great Rift Valley community’s capacity to rehabilitate, conserve and protect the natural ecosystems. The project also aims to promote the sustainable maintenance of a clean, healthy environment.

Over the years, charcoal burning, logging for timber and fuelwood, ring-debarking of medicinal trees and overgrazing have virtually depleted the forest vegetation cover. This has resulted in streams and rivers drying up, soil erosion, the emigration of wildlife, scorched earth and conflict.

To reverse this, the Kenya Reforestation project will plant indigenous trees on the worst degraded areas to restore the forest. This will not only restore the forest but provide greater opportunity for new skills and employment. Since the project began, over 180,000 trees have been planted, and more community-based organisations are getting involved!
