A. They are. We offer a top-class repair service to third party vehicles including all makes of hot boxes.

Q. What is a Gully Emptier?

A. Having your gully cleaned and sucked regularly helps to ensure it is working correctly. By their nature gullies are supposed to prevent any large amounts of debris from passing through but sometimes this can happen. Using a gully emptier from N.D Brown helps to maintain your gully’s lifespan and prevent potential flooding in the future.

Q. Can I book a vehicle online?

A. Yes. Just fill in one of our booking request forms here.

Q. I’m looking to hire a hot box, what sizes of vehicle do you supply?

A. We supply a wide range of hotboxes in 7.5 tonne, 12 tonne, 18 tonne, 21 tonne and 26-tonne weights. Within our fleet we also have hot boxes with road mender and side tipping features, visit our hot box page today.

Q. I can’t find the vehicle I am looking for online, does this mean it is not available?

A. Not necessarily. Due to the nature of the business, it is often difficult to list all vehicles online. Please fill in our sales request form online for more information.

Q. Are HGV hire trucks difficult to drive?

Modern light commercials and vans are similar to private cards, with the usual dashboard, gadgets, gear stick and power steering, so they do not feel that different inside in cabin.

The main difference you will find between driving a car and a van or truck is the size.

The vehicle width, length of the ‘wheelbase’ (which refers to the distance between the centre of the front and rear axles) and the length of the rear ‘overhang’ (any part of the truck to the rear of the back axle). These are typically far larger than cars, so extra care needs to be taken on tight bends, roundabouts, junctions and during parking and overtaking manoeuvres.

ND Brown would also recommend driving with extra care when taking bends and junctions a little slower, always use your mirrors and adapt your driving style to turn slightly later and less severely than in a car. This will help avoid minor collisions that can happen to less experienced truck drivers.

A number of modern lorries feature automatic transmissions and benefit from numerous driving mirrors to enhance the driver’s vision.
Most people that hire larger vehicles are professional HGV drivers that have had significant training and loads of experience. Remember HGV trucks are much larger than most vehicles on the road so, if you need some additional orientation with the vehicle controls or other assistance before driving, do not hesitate to contact our team of specialists when collecting your vehicle, and we will be more than happy to help.

Q. Can I extend the hire?

If you would like to extend your hire, arrangements need to be made prior to the expiry of the current agreement plus an additional payment made to ensure the hire period and insurance cover are extended.

If you can’t find what you are looking for here then please don’t hesitate to contact us for further information.
